Governors Urge Sambo To Give Jonathan Full Support

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum recently implored Vice-president Namadi Sambo to give President Goodluck Jonathan a full backing in his bid to reform the country’s electoral system.

The governors who made their position known in a statement signed by Director-General of the forum, Mr. Asishana Okauru, also congratulated Sambo on his subsequent appointment as the country’s number two citizen.

The statement made available to LEADERSHIP reads: “We urge you to solidly back President Jonathan in his determination to reform the electoral system and conduct free and fair election next year. As chairman of the National Economic Council, we expect that your team, which has your former colleagues in the NGF as members, will take drastic measures capable of transforming our country into Africa’s economic powerhouse and industrial giant. As you know, one of the ways we can achieve that is by solving the problem of epileptic power supply in our country.

“We hereby congratulate His Excellency, Architect Namadi Sambo, on his assumption of duty as the vice president of our great country. We believe that your appointment, legislative clearance and inauguration without any hitch are clear demonstration of the fact that our country is waxing stronger in its democratic journey.

“There is great expectation in the land. You and President Jonathan carry the burden and hopes of Nigerians here at home and in the Diaspora. Even though the administration has very little time, Nigerians and the international community expect that you and the President constitute a solid team capable of confronting the immediate challenges facing the most populous black nation on earth.

“Your emergence has made all Nigerians proud by demonstrating, again, that Nigerians, on their own can choose their own leaders on their own terms, in an ordered manner. It is also a measure of the confidence reposed in you by the President, the National Assembly, your party and indeed millions of Nigerians.”
