Governors call for meeting on electoral reformThe 36 Governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria here called for a special stakeholders meeting on electoral reform and the Constitution Amendment, recently passed by the National Assembly. According to the governors, who proposed the meeting for late June, it is to allow for a final position on the issues.The governors, who met under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, called for a discussion on the harmonized version of the bill to be taken to states to enable stakeholders give their input. In a five-point communiqué read by the Chairman of the Forum, Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State, the governors said: “The forum deliberated on the on-going Electoral Reform/Constitution Amendment which had been passed by both chambers of the National Assembly and resolved that the discussion on the harmonized version of the reviewed Constitution be taken to the states for discussion with stakeholders and a special meeting called for a final position.” The forum congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for appointing Alhaji Namadi Sambo as Vice President. It also congratulated Mr. Patrick Yakowa on his assumption of office as Governor of Kaduna State.Other issues deliberated upon by the forum, according to Saraki, include polio eradication.
