Lagos Assembly passes Building Regulation Bill

The Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Bill, 2010, entered its third reading on Tuesday at the plenary session of the State’s House of Assembly. After deliberations by the lawmakers, the bill was passed by the assembly and is now awaiting assent of the governor. The motion for the passage of the bill was moved by the Majority leader, Mr. Kolawole Taiwo, and seconded by Mr. Mudashiru Obasa. Among others, the bill seeks to establish relevant physical planning and development agencies including building control and urban renewal agencies.Specifically, the physical planning and development agencies are to implement the policies of the Ministry of Physical Planning and urban Development. In a chat with our correspondent, the Chairman of the ad hoc Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Mufutau Egberongbe, expressed optimism that the implementation of the bill would further impact positively on building policies in the state.
