IBRAHIM GEIDAM – GOVERNOR-ELECT OF YOBE STATE
Governor Ibrahim Geidam CAN, CPA, was born on 15th September, 1956. He started his primary education at Yonusari Primary School between 1963 and before proceeding to Borno Teachers College Maiduguri from 1974 – 1979 where he obtained the Teacher Grade II certificate. His pursuit of further knowledge took him to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria from 1981 to 1983 where he bagged a Diploma in Accountancy. He returned to ABU in 1987 for his degree programme, thereby obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in 1990, and therefore earning him membership of certified Accountants of Nigeria (CPA)
Governor Geidam’s public service career spanned nearly 30years from a classroom teacher, to an Audit officer then an Accountant in various government ministries from the old Borno State to Yobe State. His public service career peaked when he rose to the position of Assistant Director of Finance in the defunct Directorate of Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFFRI), and later acting Director Finance and supplies in Yobe Information and Culture Ministry.
From 1985 to 1987, he was appointed commissioner of youth and sports, and later commerce and industries. Between 1977 and early 2007, he was Director, final accounts in the state Finance Ministry and Permanent Secretary in various ministries.
In April 2007, Governor Gediam was elected Deputy Governor Yobe State to the late Governor Mamman Ali on the platform of ANPP, and became Executive Governor on the 27th January, 2009 on the demise of Governor Mamman Ali. His reign has witnessed a new spirit of commitment and service thereby engendering transformations in the Housing, Health, Education, Agriculture, Roads, Energy and other sectors.
He was re-elected on 26th April, 2011 as Executive Governor of Yobe State on account of his achievements.
