IBRAHIM SHEHU SHEMA – GOVERNOR OF KATSINA STATE
Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina State was born on 22nd September, 1952 at Dutsin-ma in his state. He had his early education at Nasarawa Primary School, Katsina from 1964 to 1971 and obtained his first Schoo lLeaving Certificate. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Kafanchan in 1972 and passed out with a West African School Certificate in 1976. Thereafter, he was at the College of Arts,Science and Technology, Zaria from 1977 and he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with an LLB (Hons) in Law in 1983. A year later, he passed his Bar examinations at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island Lagos.
After his National Service, he acted as Chief Legal Executive to National Fertilizer Company Limited; he was a principal partner in Shema, Oscar and Co. Legal Practitioners in Lagos from 1985 to 1987. In 1994 to 1998 he studied and obtained a Masters of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria
In August 1999, Ibrahim Shehu Shema took up his first high profile political appointment as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Katsina state. In September 2005, he became National Chairman (North) of PDP; Chairman National Reconciliation Committee and Chairman Governing Board of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
Having acquired these varied experiences, he then decided to run for governor in his home state under the umbrella of People Democratic Party (PDP) which he won to succeed the then Governor Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, in May 2007 and Governor-elect April, 2011.
Since assumption of office, he has made great strides in the development of Katsina in all Spheres of human development such as food security, wealth creation, infrastructural development, health, water supply, works, housing and transportation.
Governor Shehu Ibrahim belongs to many national and international associations. He is also a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Management, a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Victor Folsom fellow for Africa Centre for America and International Law.
