SENATOR IBIKUNLE AMOSUN – GOVERNOR-ELECT OF OGUN STATE

Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Governor-elect of Ogun State was born on the 25th of January, 1958. He had his early education at the African Church Primary School Abeokuta from 1965 to 1970. From there, he went on to the African Church Grammar School, in the same Ogun State capital for his Ordinary and Advanced Level Studies between 1971 and 1977.
For his higher education, Senator Amosun proceeded to Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) where he graduated in 1983 with a Higher National Diploma. Imbued with the determination to attain professional excellence, he studied hard and became Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1990. He later became a fellow of the Institute (FCA) in 1996. The distinguished Senator and Governor-elect is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (1998). Not yet ready to rest on his oars academically, Ibikunle Amosun proceeded to the University of Westminster in London, where he acquired a Master of Arts (MA) in International Finance in 2000.
He started his working career with Lanre Aremu & Co. (Chartered Accountants) as Audit Trainee in 1984 and rose to Manager Cadre in 1987. He later went on to work with Xtra Edge Consulting as a managing consultant. At present, Ibikunle Amosun has been the Principal Partner of Ibikunle Amosun & Co. (Chartered Accountants) since 1990, an accounting firm of repute with head office in Lagos.
It is noteworthy that since the beginning of his working life, he has been inspired, so to speak, to give back to the society part of what providence has given him. He has embarked on various philanthropic gestures which have touched the lives of thousands of people in his state. For examples, over the years he has awarded over 300 scholarships to students in various institutions; he has also flagged off the Senator Ibikunle Amosun Micro-Credit Scheme to assist traders and market women; Trade Empowerment Scheme to assist artisans and farmers by donating mobile phones, farming tools and equipment, motorcycles, grinding machines and tricycles; he has constructed buildings in schools across his state and most recently Ultramodern Administrative Block at his alma mater, African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta.
As a result of the positive values he added to society, his transition to party politics was seamless. In 2003, he contested and won election into the senate, representing the Ogun Central Senatorial District. Since then he has made robust contributions to debates in the house. He was Chairman, Senate Committee on Commerce from 2003 to 2007 while also being a member of the Upper House Committees on Appropriation, Foreign Affairs, Privatisation as well as security and Intelligence. In the just-concluded election, he contested and won the governorship of Ogun State on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
