GOVERNOR ABIOLA AJIMOBI – GOVERNOR-ELECT OF OYO STATE

Isiaka Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi was born on 16 December 1949 at Oja’ba in Ibadan. He started his education at Saint Patrick Primary School, Oke-Padre in Ibadan, which he completed at Ibadan City Council Primary School, Aperin. He moved on to Lagelu Grammar School for his secondary education.
His Higher education was mostly in the United States of America and he studied Business Administration and Finance at the State University in Buffalo, New York graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. His MBA was in Operations Research and Marketing majoring in finance at the Governor’s State University Park Forest, Illinois. As a result of brilliant academic performance at the New York Insurance Examinations, he was engaged in Buffalo as a state certified underwriter by Equitable Life Assurance Corporation which was then the 2nd largest insurance company in America.
He returned to Nigeria in 1977 and joined Management and Industrial Consulting firm as a Senior Consultant. He thereafter worked briefly with Modulor Group as Finance Controller before joining Nestle. In 1987, he was appointed Lubricants Manager of Shell International Oil Company. He was later posted to Togo from where he returned to Nigeria in 1995.
In 2003, he became a Senator of the Federal Republic where he served as Deputy Minority leader. During his days in the Senate, he established the first and largest free Vocational Training Centre in Oyo offering training in Computer training, fashion design, hair dressing etc. In 2007, he contested the gubernatorial election under All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and lost. He contested again in the 2011 polls on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) and won.
He is happily married with five children.
