ALHAJI IBRAHIM DANKWAMBO – GOVERNOR-ELECT OF GOMBE STATE
Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the Governor-elect of Gombe State, was born on the 4th of April, 1962 at Gombe in Gombe State. He is a second Class Upper Division graduate of Accounting of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he studied from 1981 to 1985. He also obtained a Master of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and a post-graduate diploma in Computer Science from Delta State University, Abraka. Today, he is a fellow and Associate of 6 professional bodies and associations in the financial field in Nigeria.
Apart from his brilliant academic exploits, the Governor-elect’s working career has spanned both the private and public sectors. He started his working career at Coopers and Lybrand International (Chartered Accountants), now Price/Water House Coopers between 1985 and 1988. He later joined the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1988 till 1999 when he was appointed the Accountant-General of Gombe State. His excellent performance on the job attracted the attention of the Federal Government which was then in search of a worthy successor to the then Accountant-General, who retired in April 2005. Thus, he was appointed Accountant –General of the Federation on 20th April, 2005, a position which he has held meritoriously until now.
During his tenure as Accountant-General of the Federation, he introduced landmark programmes towards ensuring accountability, transparency and probity. These included massive reorganisation of the Accountant-General’s office to make it more focused, pragmatic and professionally suitable for efficient service delivery. He also commenced the computerisation of the federal government account. Among several others, he also put in place standardisation of accounts of federal, state and local governments in Nigeria while ensuring that all government revenues were captured into the treasury and properly accounted for.
But in the run-up to the current dispensation he stepped into the political ring. He contested the governorship of his home state on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which he won. He is now Governor-elect of Gombe state.
