Delta State Government has unfolded plans to increase the pension of civil service retirees in the state, saying the decision is to put smiles in their faces. This was as the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led government has approved an increase in their pension.
Those to benefit from the government largesse, according to the state Commissioner for Information, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, are pensioners that retired before May 2000, who had already had 33 per cent increment in their pension.
Ukah, who spoke after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Asaba, the state capital, yesterday disclosed that the increment was meant to ameliorate the sufferings of the pensioners and give them a new ray of hope. The Commissioner further revealed that the contract for the completion of the perimeter fencing of the Asaba International Airport had also been approved, while the procurement of third party services for the development of gas-based IndustrialParkinKwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, was also approved.
